Session
Organizers:
The Banyan Tree would like to give new musicians
a place to play in a fun environment. We need volunteers
to act as Jam Session Meisters. These are seasoned
musicians to organize the logistics of a monthly
jam session, define session etiquette and facilitate
the session.
Three Chord Jam
Participants in turn play simple songs,
reasonably slowly so that others can play along. Leader
lets people know the chords before hand. Meister offers
players lead parts in turn.
Song Circle
In a Song Circle, everyone gets the chance to sing
or play when their turn comes. You may play, make a
request or pass. Meister’s job is easy in this
circle.
Instrumental Slow Jam
Fiddle and other lead instruments play a “tune” slowly
3-5 times through, then fast a couple of times. Genres
could include any or all: celtic, old time, Canadian,
or whatever. Meister could lead entire first half,
then offer participants a chance to lead a song in
the second half. Accompanist(s) required for this jam.
Do
you have another idea to get young adults playing
music?

budding songwriters to hone their skills.
Demo Recording Workshop

gives young artists skills to home-record a demo of
their music.
Instrument Making Workshop

and repairing folk instruments that includes a tour
of an instrument maker's shop.
